Draaien met de ARRI Alexa bied nogal wat mogelijkheden kwa workflow. Omdat de ProRes optie officieel nog niet beschikbaar is, moet er naar alternatieven gezoht worden. Hier een poging wat te inventariseren en te vergelijken.
After testing the Alexa today for infrared issues it became clear that you should be carefull using plain ND filters. We recomend to do your own testing but we found that ND filters above 0.6 (2 stops) already gave a clear magenta hue and color shifts. Additionally we found a big difference between the Panchro hotmirror filter, (working very well), and the Rosco True Color doing only half the job.
Today the first ARRI Alexa camera arrived in the Netherlands at Cam-a-lot rental house. It has some big changes compared to the prototype we tested a month ago and finally we are allowed to write about it. Here the first impression of the camera.
Na maanden hebben we eindelijk onze testen terug en kunnen we er nog wat overschijven. Helaas moet het 'text only' blijven door de restrictie van ARRI op ons geteste materiaal. We hebben het materiaal is in de Scratch geladen om de verschillende bestandsformaten te vergelijken. ProRes was volgens ARRI bij het eerste model 4:2:2 maar de header geeft wel 4:4:4 aan. De Scratch kan dit formaat direct inlezen en was dus goed te vergelijken met de 'tape workflow' die we ook hadden mee lopen. Opname op HD SR tape via de SRW1 recorder en daarna via de Nucoda gecaptured naar DPX. Daarnaast natuurlijk het RED MX materiaal wat we als R3D's op 4K hebben ingeladen.
